Of Plots and Death
(1989-1990)

When they were seventeen, they were visiting their grandparents' Castle Blythe for a long spring holiday (1989). Karrah was wandering around the grounds supposedly, while Kerrih and her grandparents were sitting at the edge of the garden sipping lemonade. Suddenly, a servant rushed up to Karal (grandfather) and told him there was an emergency in the weapon storage room in the East Tower. Now Karal was a born pyromancer and used that talent to forge many great weapons in his custom built forge near the edge of a willow tree grove. The twenty story tall East Tower was where most of his weaponry and armory was stored and/or displayed before it was sent to various shops or given away to militaries to protect the denizens of RhyDin.

Karal got up and made his way with the servant to the East Tower, though Kerrih and her grandmother were not far behind they were casually walking just to see what the hoopla was about. Upon coming to the fifth floor in the stairwell of the tower, an arrow was loosed from the roof of the main wing (which was four stories tall) through the window as Karal walked passed it. The arrow missed his heart narrowly; unfortunately, the arrow turned out to be poisoned. Karal managed to drag himself down a floor of stairs to meet Kerrih and his wife, Korrina, on the stairwell where he collapsed in the latter's arms speaking of his undying love for her before the last breath was muted from him. Though the grounds were tightly secured, they were never able to discern who fired the arrow. Kerrih questioned the servant who came to fetch Karal intensely trying to figure out who told him about an emergency, but the servant never responded to her tortures and eventually died from them.

Years later (1995) Kerrih discovered that Karrah was the one behind the assassination of their grandfather. She felt betrayed not only by Kerrih but by her grandfather for he always seemed to side with Kerrih when they had arguments. In her mind, she was certain he would stand in the way of the revenge she wanted to plot against Kerrih for stealing the love of her life.

On the eve of the girls' 18th birthday (1990), Karrah had devised a plot for Keelia to assassinate Kerrih. Upon her death, Karrah would steal Kerrih's soul and place it in small, harmless bodies so that she could torture her throughout the rest of her life. Unfortunately the plan foiled when Keelia blundered, and Kerrih survived unscathed. Karrah however fled to Castle Magdor, a place no else yet knew about. She remained in hiding there, though rumors of her sightings were reported back to Kerrih fairly often.

It was not long after this their grandmother Korrina passed away. She died peacefully in her sleep, though it was said she died of a broken heart. From the day after his death until her own death, she would wander the stairwell of the East Tower for hours each day, stopping to rest in the place where her husband had died in her arms. Kerrih had their bodies buried next to each other in the old Willow Grove, and a stone bench sits across from them with their names engraved into a heart shape on the stone.

During this time, Flandan Reynolds who was now openly dating Kerrih, and since Karrah's disappearance had bought Kerrih an engagement ring. The jeweler claims it was the most uniquely shaped diamond that he had ever seen, and that Flandan had specified the ring and the mounting for it. The bard was most eager to keep this woman's heart, who by now was actually being faithful to him. It did indeed seem like Kerrih's wild heart had finally been tamed. Though it would only turn up crushed as she woke up on the day of their wedding rehearsal to find a note on her door signed by Flandan that said he could not tolerate the guilt from what they had done to Karrah, so he was leaving RhyDin forever. This, of course, is not really what happened, but it was the only truth Kerrih knew or still knows.
